John Preston, Centre Director

John is the Centre Director at Mathnasium of Clapham. Prior to opening his Mathnasium centre, John worked in finance, specialising in derivative structuring and corporate hedging solutions for several large investment banks.  After a life-changing event John decided to leave the City behind and is delighted to be running one of the first Mathnasium centres in the heart of Nappy Valley, covering Clapham, Balham, Battersea & Wandsworth.  John is proud to be making a positive contribution towards the lives of children and is enthusiastic about helping every child in the community to truly understand maths by teaching it in the way that makes sense to them using the Mathnasium Method.  Married to an amazing woman with whom they have 2 wonderful children, John likes to spend his spare time keeping fit, travelling the world (when he has the time) and enjoying the occasional glass of red.

Instructors

Sophie has just finished her Masters of Nuclear Engineering, involving the study of Physics and Materials Science.  Sophie is a very friendly and approachable person who is passionate about both Maths & Physics.  Sophie previously taught at Sixth Form as a Physics prefect which sparked her interest in becoming a tutor and passing on her knowledge to others.  She hopes to impart her enthusiasm of Maths to younger students and inspire them to learn. Outside the field of Physics Sophie likes to immerse herself into the realm of the supernatural, whether that’s in the form of reading comic books, or playing a magical warrior in video games!

Alex recently graduated from Esher College where he studied Maths, Physics, IT and an extended project qualification (EPQ). Alex is very passionate about maths and loves problem solving. Alex became a maths tutor so he could share his passion for maths and help students learn to love maths like he does!  Alex is currently taking a gap year, developing his soft skills and is going to study mechanical engineering at the university of Sussex.  When Alex isn’t passing on his mathematical knowledge you will find him web slinging around New York (Spiderman), slaying Gods (God of War) and fighting battles in space (Halo) on his Xbox.

Anusuyaa is currently studying for her A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Spanish at Nonsuch High School.  She has been teaching Maths and English for over a year now and finds helping children of all abilities to make progress really rewarding.  Next year Anusuyaa will be studying Medicine at University, with the aim of working for ‘Médecins sans Frontièrs’ in the future.  Given her busy schedule Anusuyaa has narcoleptic tendencies, so when she isn’t at college, learning another language for fun (French, Arabic, Spanish, etc) or throwing someone around at her local dojo, she’s sleeping infront of yet another series on Netflix she won’t really watch!
