Aileen Clarkson, Owner & Centre Manager
Aileen is orginally from Scotland, and has an Honours Degree in Mathematics for Business Analysis from Glasgow Caledonian University. On graduating, Aileen worked in the Aerospace and Manufacturing industries, but continued to tutor maths in her spare time. She moved to Poynton in 1993 and had two sons with her Husband John.
After her sons were born, she decided to return to her love of maths and worked at a local Kumon centre for a year. She then spent the next five years working in Adult Education teaching numeracy and maths at Stockport College. She also developed and delivered a GCSE Maths revision course and worked with at-risk students in the Gateway program.
In 2005 the family had the opportunity to move to Savannah, Georgia in the USA when her Husband took a job at Gulfstream. Aileen worked at a local school and volunteered at a local Adult Education centre. Aileen researched Education franchises for two years and realised the Mathnasium method matched her own way of teaching by making maths make sense. In 2011 Aileen opened her first Mathnasium Maths Learning Centre, and over the next seven years, opened three more due to the huge demand in the area. Aileen is now one of the top performing owners in the USA. She partners with local schools and PTA's to help fundraising efforts and support school events.
When Mathnasium HQ decided to start franchising in the UK, Aileen helped rewrite the US curriculum to UK standards and realised how well the Mathnasium method of teaching maths fitted in with the English curriculum. She decided to open a franchise and is excited to bring the first Mathnasium Maths learning centre to the North West.
Aileen says "I didn't anticipate how much Mathnasium would change my life and the lives of all the students and families I have had the pleasure to work with over the past seven years. Seeing students develop a love of maths and reach their full potential is so rewarding. Whether your child is behind in maths or wants to get challenged more, Mathnasium has a program for them. I'm looking forward to being able to spend more time in the UK with friends and family but also continue to work within an organisation that builds number sense and helps children truly understand maths."
